Founded by Finn Butler and George Thompson, Erebus is a multi-disciplinary design practice with expertise in wayfinding, service design, industrial design, graphic design and information design.
Finn brings 30 years’ experience delivering wayfinding projects across a broad range of sectors, including; Transportation, Education, Health, Cultural and the Urban Realm.
Finn’s experience working within diverse interdisciplinary teams, brings a strategic customer focused approach to projects – highlighting the value of engaging with clients, stakeholders and customers as active project partners through a co-design process. An approach that has shown to mitigate risk and deliver meaningful outcomes when engaging with complex challenges.
Finn consultancy background as well as experience working client side, provides insight into the impact that different commercial and operational models can have on the user experience, and the need to understand these requirements in developing an effective wayfinding system.
Having created wayfinding and user experience solutions for some of the most complex environments in the world, Finn possesses a unique approach that delivers measurable commercial, social and cultural impacts, well beyond the typical remit of wayfinding.

As Erebus co-founder George brings over a decade of Industrial Design and project leadership experience, combining strategic thinking with extensive design and manufacturing experience, enabling George to apply a real-world pragmatism to projects, while maintaining a focus on the needs of the end user.
A profound knowledge of the manufacturing process, materials and emerging technologies, provides George with the insights required to deliver highly integrated and cost-effective wayfinding outcomes, working alongside our project partners.
In addition to his technical knowledge, George brings a practical approach to stakeholder and user engagement and has lead Customer Experience Strategies that are grounded in his pragmatic approach to product and customer testing.
George’s hands-on co-design working practice lead to unusual partnerships, including recent collaborations that integrate his industrial design expertise with high end cuisine, working alongside some of Australia’s most visionary chefs.
